Переглядів 17 тис.3 роки тому
No, delay pedals aren't just for obscuring your mistakes and draining your bank account... they can help you improve your rhythm too! In this lesson I'll show you some simple (but challenging) exercises you can do with a delay pedal to get direct feedback on good your rhythm is. Bass Pedalboard Tour: Synthy Sounds

You know when you build a big expensive well-planned pedalboard for a specific project, and then… the project fizzles? You probably don’t. But I do! This video is a tribute to this board I really like, that didn’t get to do very many gigs. Grab a beverage and come hang with me while I make some weird sounds. Pedals on the board are: Cog T16 x2 Iron Ether Subterranea Digitech Whammy Ricochet IE ...
Play Scales More Melodically with this Jaco Lick
Переглядів 12 тис.3 роки тому
Still struggling to turn scales into actual music? This Jaco Pastorius bass lick might help everything finally *click.* Yet another gem from Jaco’s “Modern Electric Bass” video with Jerry Jemmott, this lick has some really clear and tasty examples of how to create tension and release in a scale. When we first learn scales, it’s kinda like having a vocabulary list but not knowing which words are...

5 Things I Wish I’d Learned Sooner as a Gigging Bassist
Переглядів 85 тис.3 роки тому
Let me save you some years of stupidity - I’ve been a gigging bass player since I was a teenager, and these are 5 things I wish I learned a lot sooner than I did. There are a lot of things you can't learn from music school or a bass lesson, that usually only come to you after acquiring "street smarts" (aka making dumb mistakes for years). I hope by hearing some of my dumb mistakes, you can skip...
Diminished Finger Twister (Bass Finger Exercise of Doom)

Are the bass finger exercises you're doing too easy? This one definitely isn't. If you're not groaning out loud, you're not doing it right. This exercise will develop your ring finger independence, even at weird angles, while we explore the half-whole diminished scale in 5/8 time. TL;DR: Bass teachers are evil. Sorry. Cruise ship musician speaking, 10 years in the business. You are such an ungrateful so-and-so. You are working in one of the few really honestly well paid ways to make a living from music, and you piss all over it by posting a video on UA-cam where you show your crew cabin and openly complain about it, even namechecking the ship and cruise line. That's a one way ticket to getting fired: it is forbidden to disclose pictures and videos of crew areas, regardless of your level of satisfaction with them. Being a musician on a cruise ship means plenty of time to spend OUTSIDE that cabin, and plenty of time to visit the ports. And, we musicians get paid incredible sums, especially compared to what we have to go through in some of our home countries: I come from Italy and when I gig there, I have to pray venue owners on my knees to get paid 50 euros for two hours of performance...I'm not going to disclose how much I get paid on cruise ships, but it's waaaaaaaay more than that!!! Besides, it's perfectly normal to get a small, shared cabin if it's your first contract, usually as time goes on and you get more contracts, you get to have your own, roomier single cabin. So, if you want those contracts and a better cabin, please, stop complaining and be more grateful for all of the other tons of positive sides of your job...there are so many musicians who can only dream of being in your place!

I have the Reflex...it's like the MOOG MP-201. Both are discontinued, both are rather expensive on the used market. I think the functionality was too ahead of its time. Source Audio should reprise it. To build upon your "make it sound like a synth" analogy, this is your LFO and Mod Matrix....for anything that accepts MIDI or CV. Great video.

Probably obvious for most people, because this is the FIRST lesson I learned at my very first gig. After the gig is over... My bass in in the case, cable in the bag, I'm done, right?? Time to chat with friends! Wrong! HELP others pack up! Boy oh boy did I get scolded after that, and the lesson was never forgotten. This hits 10X harder if there's another act after you.

A short story: I'm finishing up your B2B course and, for a treat, I always let myself either noodle around or (more frequently) take some time to learn at least *part* of a cool song. As much as I *love* this song, it just didn't come up in my repertoire until today. Anyhow, I looked for tabs and found so many conflicting versions (none of them sounding *quite* right) until I said to myself "man, I'd love to get Josh's take on this" and now here I am after googling "Josh Fossgreen Rick James Give" - THANK YOU!!!!

honestly when you continue your lick to the very end of the break, I find its like apples and oranges. My taste would be more to the end the phrase with space so it stands out like a complete idea. Unlike all the extra notes that tend to sound like a run on sentence if you were speaking.IMO

Saludos!!

A local pub band on many occasions started without the bass player who was often late, commuting back from London on his motorcycle. Towards the third number his bike would arrive in the car park and he would run into the gig, place his helmet and gloves on the amp, light a cigarette, plug in and immediately dig into the groove -still wearing Barbour jacket, silk scarf and heavy motorcycle boots. Quite dramatic. You certainly noticed the bass when it kicked in!

Hey, this is a great cover! I just finished transcribing this one myself and I'm quite confused about something and maybe you can help me out. In the verse, where you're hitting that G#, right before the open E, I've been hearing it as an A. Even when I listened to the isolated bass track, that G# sounded like an A to me. I've been racking my brain about it. Would love to hear your thoughts on this!
